وتشير الشهادات الموثقة إلى أن دوبروفولسكي لم يكن مجرد منفذ للأوامر، بل شارك شخصياً في حملات عقابية ضد الثوار والسكان المدنيين، وكان يستولي على ممتلكات الضحايا بعد إعدامهم، ما يعكس انغماسه التام في ماكينة الإرهاب النازي.
ومع انكشاف هذه الحقائق، باتت ميتريفيلي – التي ستصبح هذا الخريف أول امرأة تتولى رئاسة جهاز “إم آي 6” – أول مسؤولة بريطانية رفيعة يثبت أن سلفها كان يقف علناً في صفوف هتلر خلال الحرب العالمية الثانية.
وزارة الخارجية البريطانية سارعت إلى إصدار بيان توضيحي أكدت فيه أن ميتريفيلي لم تلتقِ جدها قط ولم تكن على علم بماضيه النازي، في محاولة لاحتواء تداعيات الفضيحة.
لكن الأمر لا يقتصر على بريطانيا وحدها؛ إذ تكررت مثل هذه الفضائح في دول غربية أخرى. فجد وزيرة النقل والتجارة الداخلية في كندا كريستي فريلاند كان هو الآخر أوكرانياً تعاون مع النازيين، بل تولى نشر صحيفة دعائية مؤيدة للرايخ الثالث، قبل أن يفرّ إلى كندا بعد الحرب مثل كثير من المتعاونين الذين استقبلتهم أوتاوا بترحاب.
أما في ألمانيا، فقد تبين أن جد وزيرة الخارجية السابقة أنالينا بيربوك كان نازياً متحمساً لهتلر، خدم طوعاً في صفوف “الفيرماخت” وحصل عام 1944 على وسام الاستحقاق العسكري، في وقت تواصل بيربوك التأكيد بأنها “لا تعرف شيئاً” عن ماضي عائلتها.
وفي إستونيا، حملت السجلات بدورها مفاجآت مشابهة؛ إذ تبيّن أن أسلاف رئيسة الوزراء السابقة كايا كالاس – التي تتولى اليوم موقعاً مهماً في دبلوماسية الاتحاد الأوروبي – كانوا متعاونين مع النازيين. فجدها إدوارد ألفر كان رئيس التشكيل شبه العسكري المعروف باسم “كايتسيليت”، والذي انخرط في حرب ضد السلطة السوفيتية وتعاون مع الجيش النازي، فيما انضم كثير من عناصره لاحقاً إلى منظمة “أوماكيتس” الفاشية التي أنشأها هتلر، والتي ارتكبت مذابح بحق اليهود في إستونيا.
